What would you do with a share of £5,000?

That’s the envious problem facing the 12 lucky winners of our Five Grand in the Sand competition, which saw a dozen victors digging up a sandcastle on Aberavon Beach to reveal their prize.

Run in conjunction with The Wave, the lcv group’s HQ’s local radio station in Swansea, and hosted by Breakfast show presenter Leigh Jones, each contestant walked away with a minimum of £200, with two top prizes of £2,000 and £1,000 scooped by Danielle Bolton and Sarah Fowler respectively.

Speaking afterwards, Danielle said: “I was really nervous and excited on the morning, it was a fantastic surprise to win the big amount. It will go on my children for Christmas and if there’s any leftover maybe a little holiday. I enter lots of competitions so win a few here and there, but this is the biggest cash prize I've won, thank you so much.”

Sarah Fowler, who claimed £1,000, said: "I was literally so excited when I opened the treasure chest and saw I won £1000. I felt like I had won millions. I was shaking with happiness. I am going to save some of it to put towards a holiday and some treats my daughter as it's her sixteenth birthday in November and Christmas coming up. I have been very lucky winning on the Wave; I've won Diversity tickets, bowling tickets, cinema tickets, but never and money. I don't play lottery but I do the Postcode Lottery but only small wins on that. £1000 to me is amazing, I'm a single mum, unable to work due to knee disability, so I'm so grateful to have won this amount."

Katrina Merrell, the lcv group’s marketing manager, said: “Congratulations to all of our winners in our Five Grand in the Sand competition which we held in collaboration with The Wave. A huge thank to the RNLI for allowing us to use their facilities on the final day of the competition, there was so much excitement as all of our contestants dug their individual sandcastles to find their chests to find out how much they had won, with everyone winning something. We’re so pleased to have been able to sponsor such an exciting competition within the local community.”
